The act of ‘Giving’ always pulls at the strings of the Heart, especially when it comes to being received by those who need it the most.
And at a time as this, the Global Pandemic, COVID -19 knows no limit – impacting lives at all levels.
This is evident in what is about to be shared – a small working class family who goes without food for days.
A 37-year-old mother (Identity withheld) was very emotional this afternoon speaking on behalf of her family, as they became the one of the first to receive a good will of food donation from a member of the NCD Food Bank COVID-19, FEED THE HUNGRY CAMPAIGN.
It was also a bad time for her family as her husband became very ill – another heavy burden of loan repayment and rental fares had also put a strain on the family, literally leaving them to go by with just K20 a week. The couple have 3 children whom have been without food for over two days.
Earlier this week, she reached out to NCD Food Bank through Facebook – “I just read your post and I dearly wanted to believe you are a real person”, she said.
The mother shed light on their situation noting that they had not eaten well in over two days.
‘Being a proud woman I couldn’t ask anyone to know my plight”, she said.
‘My children are weak and I can’t go anywhere as I don’t have any means…it’s really funny to experience the ignorance of family and friends who I have helped in the past’
NCD Food Bank members gave a surprise visit to the woman’s residence were a small donation was presented to her.
“I was so surprised that you actually came to give to us, and it is just heart-warming”, she said.
The NCD Food Bank acknowledges, there are many others like this mother who are also in desperate need and she was one of the few who reached out for assistance.
NCD Food Bank is working overtime on a distribution model, which will see that donations are reaching the most vulnerable within the city.
